Jammu: A senior police officer on Saturday reviewed the security arrangements in Kathua district and directed officials to strengthen checkpoints, particularly during night hours, to curb the movement of anti-social and anti-national elements, officials said.

Deputy Inspector General of Police, Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma, underscored the need for greater inter-agency coordination, real-time intelligence sharing, and enhanced technology-driven surveillance to secure sensitive zones that have historically faced cross-border threats from terrorist and smuggling networks, a police spokesperson said.

Chairing a meeting attended by Senior Superintendent of Police Mohita Sharma and other senior officers, the DIG discussed key security challenges and instructed the establishment of joint checkpoints for more effective monitoring.

He also interacted with Village Defence Guards (VDGs) in vulnerable areas and inspected several border police posts.

According to officials, the DIG directed all officers to intensify vigil across checkpoints and maintain strict watch on suspicious movements. Locals were urged to promptly share information with police regarding any suspicious activity.

During the visit, the DIG received a detailed briefing on the border security grid, including existing vulnerabilities, surveillance capabilities, coordination mechanisms with other security forces, and the readiness of ground units to counter potential cross-border threats.
