Srinagar: The Jammu & Kashmir Lakes Conservation and Management Authority (J&K LCMA) has issued an advisory for residents in and around Dal Lake, especially houseboat owners and Dal dwellers, in view of the rising water levels in the River Jhelum.

Officials said the Jhelum has crossed the danger mark of 21 feet, and to manage the situation, the gate at Ram Munshi Bagh may be opened at any time as part of emergency measures.

If opened, the release of water is likely to raise the water level of Dal Lake, which is already at 10.5 feet, posing a risk of inconvenience and possible danger to local residents and houseboat owners.

The LCMA has urged people to take all necessary precautions, stay alert, and be prepared to move to relief centres identified by the District Administration, Srinagar, should the need arise.
