Srinagar, Nov 30: A delegation of lawyers from Kashmir, led by Advocate Waseem Gul, met Chief Justice of India Surya Kant on Friday to formally felicitate him on taking charge as the 51st Chief Justice of India. The delegation conveyed greetings on behalf of the legal fraternity of Jammu & Kashmir and expressed confidence that his tenure would further strengthen judicial accessibility, transparency and efficiency across the country.

During the interaction, Advocate Gul apprised the CJI of several issues faced by litigants and lawyers in the region, including case pendency, infrastructural limitations in district courts, the need for upgraded digital facilities and challenges arising from frequent adjournments.

The delegation also emphasized the significance of ensuring smoother virtual hearing mechanisms for remote districts, which they said would greatly benefit litigants from Kashmir and other far-flung areas. Advocate Gul noted that the legal community looks forward to reforms that prioritise timely justice and improved court management systems.

Chief Justice Surya Kant thanked the delegation for their visit and acknowledged the concerns raised, reiterating the Supreme Court’s commitment to ensuring equal justice delivery across all regions. He assured that strengthening judicial infrastructure, especially in geographically challenging territories, remains an important priority for the higher judiciary.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the delegation expressing hope that the new CJI’s tenure would usher in meaningful reforms and enhanced access to justice for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
