Leh: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Kavinder Gupta on Tuesday paid rich tributes to police martyrs on the occasion of Police Commemoration Day, urging the youth of Ladakh to draw inspiration from the courage and dedication of the fallen heroes and contribute actively to nation-building.

Addressing a solemn ceremony held at the Parade Ground in Choglamsar, the Lt Governor lauded the Ladakh Police for their professionalism, discipline, and commitment to maintaining peace and harmony in the region’s challenging terrain. He also laid wreaths at the Police Memorial in honour of the martyrs.

The day commemorates the supreme sacrifice of 10 CRPF personnel who were martyred on October 21, 1959, at Hot Springs in Ladakh during a confrontation with the Chinese Army.

The event was attended by Ladakh Director General of Police S.D. Singh Jamwal, along with senior civil, police, and paramilitary officials, a Raj Bhavan spokesperson said.

Gupta saluted the courage, dedication, and selfless service of police personnel who laid down their lives in the line of duty to uphold peace, law, and order. He also interacted with the families of the martyrs, expressing heartfelt gratitude for their sacrifices and assuring them of the administration’s continued support.

Commending the Ladakh Police for their unwavering devotion to public service, the Lt Governor called upon local youth to emulate their spirit of patriotism and service to the nation.

In his address, DGP Jamwal paid homage to the martyrs and reaffirmed the police force’s steadfast commitment to the people of Ladakh. He read out the names of police personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice over the past year, including Inspector Tsewang Namgyal of Ladakh Police.

Ladakh Police also remembered other brave personnel from the region who laid down their lives in previous years — Sub Inspector Stanzin Norboo, Assistant Sub Inspector Sonam Dorjay, and Constables Gulam Abbas, Shabbir Hussain, Zulfiqar Ali, and Mohd Raza.
