Leh: A Ladakhi officer has been inducted into the judicial commission investigating the September 24 violence in Leh, ensuring local representation in the high-level probe.

The inclusion follows persistent demands from the Leh Apex Body (LAB) for a Ladakh-based member to be part of the panel, aimed at ensuring a fair and comprehensive investigation into the incident that left four people dead.

According to an official communication from the Department of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh Affairs under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the composition of the judicial inquiry committee has been amended.

The latest order, dated October 28, appoints Rigzin Spalgon, Additional Secretary, Administration of the Union Territory of Ladakh, to assist Dr. Justice B. S. Chauhan (former Supreme Court judge) as Joint Secretary in conducting the inquiry, the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC), Leh, said in a statement.

The amendment, issued by Prashant S. Lokhande, Joint Secretary to the Government of India, aims to enhance coordination and administrative support from the Ladakh administration for the smooth functioning of the inquiry.

Earlier, on October 18, the Leh Apex Body (LAB) and Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA)—both leading the movement for statehood and Sixth Schedule safeguards for Ladakh—had welcomed the Centre’s decision to order a judicial probe but urged the inclusion of a Ladakhi representative in the commission.
