Anantnag Court Sentences Man to Life Imprisonment for Raping Minor Daughter
Srinagar: A sessions court in Jammu and Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for raping his minor daughter.
Principal District and Sessions Judge Tahir Khurshid Raina pronounced the sentence after hearing arguments on the quantum of punishment, officials said. The accused had been convicted by the court on October 15.
To protect the identity of the survivor, the name of the convict has not been disclosed, as the perpetrator is her father.
The case was registered in 2022 at the Women’s Police Station, Anantnag, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Sections 3 and 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Officials said the court ordered that the convict shall remain imprisoned for the rest of his natural life.
Additionally, the court directed the District Legal Services Authority, Anantnag, to initiate compensation proceedings for the survivor, fixing a minimum amount of ₹10 lakh.
