Srinagar: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday paid glowing tributes to the police martyrs, asserting that the entire nation recognizes the courage and unwavering commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police in safeguarding peace and security in the Union Territory.
Speaking at the Police Commemoration Day event, LG Sinha hailed the “immense” sacrifices made by police personnel and honoured the 1,614 officers who laid down their lives in the line of duty. “Their sacrifices are beyond any monetary measure,” he said, assuring that the administration would continue to support the families of the fallen heroes and ensure they never face hardships.
“I commend all police personnel for their tireless efforts to maintain peace,” the LG said, adding that the J&K Police have been at the forefront of operations across multiple fronts. He highlighted their exceptional dedication, remarking that many officers “have no holidays, no festivals — their only duty is their kartavya (service).”
Emphasizing the need for vigilance, LG Sinha urged both citizens and security forces to remain alert against terrorism and its supporters. “Over the past five years, the people of J&K have bravely stood up against terrorism. We must ensure that terrorists and their sympathizers fail in their nefarious designs,” he said, calling for a united front to preserve peace and stability.
The LG also highlighted recent reforms in India’s justice system, noting that the country has replaced colonial-era penal codes with three new criminal laws that prioritize justice over punishment.
Stressing the importance of countering misinformation, he urged the use of modern technology and smart tools to combat fabricated narratives.
Concluding his address, LG Sinha called upon all attendees to take a pledge to work collectively for the safety and prosperity of Jammu and Kashmir and to stand firmly behind the police in their mission to uphold peace and normalcy.
