Operation Sindoor Symbol of India’s Courage and Restraint: Rajnath Singh

New Delhi: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said that Operation Sindoor would be remembered as a historic symbol of India’s courage and restraint, while urging the armed forces to remain vigilant and never underestimate their adversaries.

Addressing the Indian Army’s top commanders in Jaisalmer, Singh called on the force to prioritise information warfare, modern defence infrastructure, and continuous modernisation to effectively meet future security challenges.

Describing Operation Sindoor as a reflection of India’s military strength and moral integrity, Singh said the operation showcased that the true power of soldiers lies not just in their weapons, but in their ethical discipline and strategic clarity.
“Operation Sindoor will be remembered not just as a military success, but as a testament to the nation’s courage and restraint,” he said. “The forces acted against terrorists with both precision and respect for human dignity. Our mission for peace will continue until the last trace of terrorism is eradicated.”

During the conference, Army commanders held extensive discussions on key security issues, including grey-zone warfare and the roadmap for enhanced jointness. Chief of Defence Staff Gen Anil Chauhan, Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, Vice Chief Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh, and all Army commanders attended the meeting.

Singh urged the Army to remain focused on defence diplomacy, self-reliance, information warfare, infrastructure development, and force modernisation to build a future-ready military. He praised the armed forces for their professionalism, courage, and resilience, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equip them with cutting-edge technology and robust infrastructure to ensure peak operational preparedness.

Highlighting the Army’s contribution to peace and progress in Jammu and Kashmir after the abrogation of Article 370, Singh said, “The decision was historic. Today, the streets of Jammu and Kashmir are filled with hope, not unrest. The people are confident about their future, and decision-making is now in the hands of locals. The Army has played a pivotal role in this transformation.”

On the northern border situation, Singh said that the ongoing dialogue and de-escalation efforts with China reflect India’s balanced yet firm foreign policy. “Our approach is clear — dialogue will continue, but our readiness on the border will remain uncompromised,” he said.

Praising the willpower and adaptability of soldiers, Singh said the Indian Army has proved its capability in every terrain — from the icy heights of Siachen to the deserts of Rajasthan and the dense forests of counter-insurgency zones. “Despite difficult conditions, our soldiers continue to adapt and strengthen national security,” he added.

Emphasising the evolving nature of warfare, Singh said that while modern conflicts are increasingly technology-driven, the soldier remains the greatest asset. “Machines enhance power, but it is the human spirit that delivers victory,” he said.

He further noted that future wars will be fought across invisible domains — cyberspace, information, electronic disruption, and space control — where technology, swift decision-making, and the determination of soldiers will define success.
