Anantnag: Police in Aishmuqam have arrested two individuals who had been evading capture for over a decade, marking the end of a ten-year pursuit built on consistent intelligence gathering and technical surveillance.

The accused have been identified as Arif Ahmad Sheikh, son of Suleiman Sheikh, a resident of Tagdi Nazirpora, Calcutta, wanted in FIR No. 39/2013 under sections 454 and 380 of the RPC, and Mohammad Shameem Sheikh, son of Minto Sheikh, resident of Kala Chowk, Tagdi Nazirpora, Calcutta, wanted in FIR No. 47/2013 under the same sections.

Both were involved in separate burglary and theft cases registered in 2013 and had been on the run since 2014. Acting on specific intelligence, Aishmuqam police launched a coordinated operation that combined human and technical inputs, successfully tracking the duo to their hideouts.

A senior police officer said the arrests demonstrate the department’s resolve to bring long-pending offenders to justice. “No matter how long it takes, the law will eventually catch up with those who try to evade it,” the officer said, adding that further legal action is in progress.

Police further assured that efforts are being intensified to locate and apprehend other absconders linked to old criminal cases in the district.
