Sakeena Itoo inaugurates additional accommodation at GHSS Boniyar, e-inaugurates key educational projects across North Kashmir

BARAMULLA: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and Education, Sakeena Itoo today inaugurated newly constructed Additional Accommodation at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Boniyar, Uri, besides laying the foundation stone for additional classrooms under the SAMGRA scheme to further strengthen educational infrastructure in the region.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the government is committed to ensuring that students across the Union Territory have access to modern and well-equipped educational institutions.

“Education is the cornerstone of progress. Our focus is to bridge infrastructure gaps and create inclusive learning spaces that nurture the potential of every student,” she emphasized.

The Minister interacted with students and faculty, urging them to make the best use of the upgraded facilities and to continue striving for academic excellence. She also underlined the importance of community participation in maintaining school assets and supporting educational initiatives.

Later, Minister Sakeena visited Government Girls Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Baramulla and attended the institution’s Annual Day celebrations. The event was attended by MLA Baramulla Javid Hassan Baigh, MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar, MLA Pattan Riyaz Bedar, MLA Gulmarg Farooq Ahmad Shah, MLA Uri Dr. Sajad Shafi, Director General School Education Kashmir Dr. G.N. Itoo, district officers, faculty members, and a large gathering of students.

During the celebrations, the Minister and accompanying dignitaries inspected innovation stalls set up by students under Atal Tinkering Labs, showcasing their creativity and technical skills. She lauded the students’ efforts, saying such projects reflect the government’s vision of promoting innovation and hands-on learning at the school level.

Encouraging students to excel in academics, sports, and co-curricular activities, Minister Sakeena reiterated the administration’s commitment to holistic student development and modern learning environments.

Outstanding students excelling in academics, cultural programs, and sports at the Union Territory and national levels were felicitated by the Minister. The colourful cultural presentations—featuring traditional dances, music, and skits—added vibrancy to the Annual Day celebration and highlighted the all-round talent of the students.

On the sidelines, Minister Sakeena e-inaugurated and laid e-foundation stones for multiple educational projects worth Rs. 2067.18 lakh across various Assembly Constituencies of North Kashmir.

Additional accommodation of a three-storey building and renovation of an existing 12-room building at Girls HSS Sopore

10-room double-storey building at HSS Mirgund Pattan

3-room double-storey block at BHSS Uri

Additional accommodation at Girls Middle School Kralpora Nehalpora Gulmarg

Additional accommodation at PM Shri MS Raram Gulmarg

3-room double-storey building at HS Trigam Sonawari

3-room double-storey building at GHS Sumbal Sonawari

6-room double-storey building at HS Rakhe Shilvat Sonawari

3-room double-storey building at HSS Madwan Sonawari

6-room double-storey building for Govt. HSS Budgam Gurez

Teacher Quarters at Government HSS Chandiloora Gulmarg (e-foundation laid)

The initiatives aim to expand educational infrastructure, ensure better learning spaces, and uplift the education ecosystem across North Kashmir.
