Mumbai: Actress Shweta Tripathi has opened up about returning to her iconic role as Gajgamini “Golu” Gupta in Mirzapur: The Movie, calling the experience both thrilling and deeply challenging.

The film, which recently wrapped up its first shooting schedule in Varanasi, is said to explore the early timeline of Mirzapur Season 1.

Reflecting on revisiting Golu’s beginnings, Shweta told IANS, “It feels like a beautiful callback to where it all started. Golu has evolved so much over the seasons, but stepping back into her bookworm phase is both exciting and demanding. Recreating her innocence and early world is incredibly special for me as an actor. And of course, it feels like a reunion of Guddu and Golu.”

Reuniting with co-star Ali Fazal, who plays Guddu Pandit, felt particularly nostalgic. “Meeting Guddu again is like catching up with your best friend after a long school vacation,” she said, adding, “It’s that same sense of warmth and excitement.”

The Mirzapur universe follows the rise of Akhandanand “Kaleen” Tripathi, a crime lord and businessman ruling over the Mirzapur district in Uttar Pradesh.

The first season featured a stellar ensemble cast including Pankaj Tripathi, Ali Fazal, Divyendu Sharma, Vikrant Massey, Shweta Tripathi, Shriya Pilgaonkar, Rasika Dugal, Harshita Gaur, and Kulbhushan Kharbanda.

Season two retained most of the main cast, adding Vijay Varma, Isha Talwar, Lilliput, Anjum Sharma, Priyanshu Painyuli, Anangsha Biswas, and Neha Sargam.

Filmed largely across Uttar Pradesh — including Mirzapur, Varanasi, Lucknow, Jaunpur, and Gorakhpur — the series has built a strong cult following for its raw storytelling and gripping performances.

The upcoming Mirzapur: The Movie is reportedly slated for release in 2026.
