Srinagar Police arrest six fugitives after decades in hiding

Srinagar,: In a major breakthrough, Srinagar Police have arrested six long-time absconders who had been evading the law for years — with some on the run for more than two decades, officials said on Saturday.

According to a police statement, a special team was constituted following specific intelligence inputs, leading to a meticulously planned operation that resulted in the arrest of the accused. After completing all legal formalities, the apprehended individuals were produced before the Hon’ble Court in Srinagar.

The arrested absconders have been identified as:

Mehraj-ud-Din Marazi, son of Mohd Abdullah Marazi, resident of Sonwar, Srinagar — absconding for 11 years in Case FIR No. 21/2015 under Sections 8/21, 22, 29 NDPS Act, PS Lalbazar.

Arshid Ahmad Shoora, son of Ab Rashid Shoora, resident of Bota Kadal, Lalbazar (presently at Hamchi Saidpora, Hazratbal, Srinagar) — evading arrest for 8 years in a case under the NI Act, PS Lalbazar.

Habibulla Bhat, son of Ab Samad, resident of Kralpora Kupwara, presently at Lalbazar — evading arrest for 27 years in Case FIR No. 39/1998 under Section 294 RPC, PS Shergarhi.

Gowhar Ahmad Wani, son of Wali Mohammad Wani, resident of Arigam, Budgam — absconding for 4 years in Case FIR No. 52/2021 under Sections 379, 511 IPC, PS Shergarhi.

Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh, son of Ghulam Mohammad Sheikh, resident of Ramnagri, Shopian, presently at Gulshan Nagar, Nowgam, Srinagar — absconding for 4 years in Case FIR No. 119/2009 under Section 379 RPC, PS Shergarhi.

Uneeb Mukhtiyar Nathkhan, son of Mukhtiyar Nathkhan, resident of 90 Feet Road, Soura — absconding for 16 years in Case FIR No. 119/2009 under Section 379 RPC, PS Shergarhi.

Srinagar Police reaffirmed its firm commitment to upholding the rule of law, emphasizing that no individual evading justice will be allowed to remain beyond its reach.
