Taiwan detects 2 Chinese aircraft, 7 naval vessels near its waters amid rising tensions
New Delhi [India]: Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense (MND) on Wednesday reported detecting two Chinese military aircraft and seven naval vessels operating near the island’s territorial waters as of 6 a.m. (local time).
In a statement on X, the MND said, “Two sorties of PLA aircraft and seven PLAN vessels operating around Taiwan were detected up until 6 a.m. (UTC+8) today. ROC Armed Forces have monitored the situation and responded accordingly.”
This comes a day after the ministry recorded similar Chinese military activity, when two aircraft and five naval vessels were observed around Taiwan. At that time, both aircraft reportedly crossed the median line of the Taiwan Strait and entered the island’s southwestern Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
The median line serves as an informal boundary between Taiwan and China, but Beijing has frequently breached it in recent years as part of its growing military pressure campaign against Taipei.
The latest incursions underscore escalating tensions in the Taiwan Strait, where China continues near-daily air and naval operations around the self-governed island.
Earlier this week, U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to China against any military aggression toward Taiwan, saying Beijing “knows the consequences” of such actions.
In an interview with CBS following his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, Trump said, “You’ll find out if it happens — and he understands the answer to that. This never even came up yesterday as a subject… he understands it very well.”
While refusing to disclose his specific strategy, Trump added, “I can’t give away my secrets… but they understand what’s going to happen.”
