Jammu police bust two major drug networks; 8 peddlers, including 4 women, arrested

JAMMU: The Jammu police have dismantled two major drug peddling networks with the arrest of eight individuals, including four women, and the recovery of heroin worth crores of rupees, officials said on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, said the operations were carried out in the Rajiv Nagar and R S Pura areas following investigations into separate cases.

He said the crackdown has dealt a major blow to organised drug crime, with more than 18 peddlers — including several residents of Punjab staying in Jammu as tenants — arrested in recent weeks.

In Rajiv Nagar, notorious drug peddler Vishal Kumar was arrested with 275 grams of heroin and an electronic weighing machine. His interrogation led to the arrest of Reena, from whose house police recovered 55 grams of heroin, a weighing machine, and ₹33,490 in cash. Three of her associates — Sheetal, Payal, and Kajal — were also apprehended, and 13 grams of heroin, two weighing machines, and ₹3,050 were seized from them.

In a separate operation in the Chak Talab area of R S Pura, police arrested three more peddlers — Inderjeet and Vishal Kumar of Punjab, and Jagdish Raj. A total of 186 grams of heroin was recovered from their possession, the SSP added.
