Tourism Deptt gears up for grand success of 2nd Kashmir Marathon
SRINAGAR: Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo on Saturday chaired a high-level meeting to review preparations for the 2nd Edition of the Kashmir Marathon, scheduled to be held on November 2, 2025, in Srinagar. The event is being organized by the Tourism Department.
The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism; Secretary, Health; Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir; DIG Traffic; MD, JKTDC; Director, Tourism, Kashmir; SSP Traffic, Srinagar; Commissioner, SMC, and other senior officers from concerned departments.
Calling the Kashmir Marathon a marquee event and a “valuable opportunity” to promote tourism and sports culture in Jammu and Kashmir, Dulloo said the first edition had received an overwhelming response and set new benchmarks for sporting events in the region.
He said participation from runners across India and abroad would further strengthen Kashmir’s image as a premier destination for leisure, adventure, and sports tourism.
Emphasizing seamless inter-departmental coordination, the Chief Secretary directed officials to ensure foolproof arrangements for athletes and participants, covering transport, accommodation, medical facilities, security, sanitation, and event management.
He instructed the Traffic Department to put in place a comprehensive traffic management plan, including diversions and advance travel advisories, to ensure smooth movement and public convenience on the event day.
Dulloo also stressed the need to offer a memorable experience that showcases Kashmir’s warmth, hospitality, and growing capacity to host large-scale international events.
During the meeting, Additional Chief Secretary, Tourism, Ashish Chander Verma, informed that several renowned national and international athletes are expected to participate. He said the event would also serve as a platform to promote local art, craft, and culture, featuring dedicated stalls for Handicrafts and Handloom products from Jammu and Kashmir.
Director, Tourism Kashmir, Raja Yaqoob, presented a detailed operational plan covering participant registration, route management, volunteer deployment, and publicity campaigns.
He said the marathon will feature two main categories—the Full Marathon (42 km) and Half Marathon (21 km)—open to both men and women. The routes will pass through iconic locations such as Dal Lake, Mughal Gardens, and Chinar-lined boulevards, blending athletic challenge with scenic beauty.
The Full Marathon will highlight Srinagar’s natural and cultural splendor, while the Half Marathon will offer participants an equally captivating experience of endurance and breathtaking vistas.
The Kashmir Marathon 2025 will also feature a substantial prize pool.
Full Marathon (Overall category): ₹25 lakh (1st), ₹20 lakh (2nd), ₹18 lakh (3rd), ₹15 lakh (4th), ₹12 lakh (5th).
Full Marathon (Age groups – 18–35, 36–50, 50+): ₹1 lakh, ₹75,000, and ₹50,000 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively.
Half Marathon (Overall category): ₹15 lakh (1st), ₹12 lakh (2nd), ₹9 lakh (3rd), ₹6 lakh (4th), ₹3 lakh (5th).
Half Marathon (Age groups): ₹75,000, ₹50,000, and ₹25,000 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions respectively (for both men and women).
With its generous rewards, scenic routes, and vibrant participation, the Kashmir Marathon 2025 is poised to become a flagship sporting event, celebrating the Valley’s spirit, hospitality, and tourism potential.
Expressing optimism, the Chief Secretary said the event would not only promote fitness and sportsmanship among youth but also boost tourism, attracting visitors from across the globe to experience Kashmir’s beauty and cultural richness.
