Jammu: Six drug peddlers, including a woman, were arrested with narcotic substances in two separate operations in Doda and Reasi districts of Jammu and Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

In the first incident, five peddlers were apprehended at a checkpoint near Thanala village in Bhaderwah after police recovered 282 grams of charas from their vehicle late Friday night, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sandeep Mehta, said. The car was reportedly coming from Himachal Pradesh when it was intercepted.

In a separate operation in Reasi district, police arrested a woman identified as Maya Mir from near Eidgah Nangal Road in Katra. She was found in possession of 6.360 grams of heroin and ₹7,900 in cash, officials said.

According to police, Maya Mir, a resident of Katra, is a habitual offender with a history of drug trafficking and other criminal activities. She had been booked in five cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Indian Penal Code between 2021 and 2022.

Due to her repeated involvement in drug-related offences, she was detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA) in 2022 and lodged in Ambphalla Jail, Jammu.

A new case under the NDPS Act has been registered against her at Katra Police Station, and an investigation is underway to trace her supply network and associates, police added.
