DC Srinagar chairs District NCORD meeting; calls for intensified action against drug menace

SRINAGAR: To evaluate the ongoing anti-narcotics initiatives and frame future strategies to curb drug abuse and trafficking, a meeting of the District Level Committee of Narco Coordination Centre (NCORD) was held today under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, at the Meeting Hall of the DC Office Complex.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Sandeep Chakravarthy, also attended the meeting.

At the outset, the DC was briefed on the measures undertaken to counter drug trafficking, promote rehabilitation of affected individuals, and strengthen enforcement under the NDPS Act. The review covered recent seizures, arrests, financial investigations, and detentions related to narcotics cases.

The DC was also apprised of initiatives ensuring accurate revenue entries in NDPS cases, safeguarding of property records, and the full implementation of computerized and online billing systems at pharmaceutical establishments across the district.

Emphasizing the need for a multi-pronged approach, the DC directed for intensified public awareness and sensitization campaigns, strengthening of Addiction Treatment Facilities (ATFs), enhanced inter-departmental coordination, and heightened surveillance at identified vulnerable hotspots.

He further stressed on eliminating the illegal cultivation of contraband crops such as poppy and bhang, urging proactive community participation in the collective fight against drug abuse.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Srinagar Aadil Fareed, Superintendent of Police Umar Shah, SDM East, SDM West, Chief Education Officer, District Statistics & Evaluation Officer, District Social Welfare Officer, Assistant Labour Commissioner, and officers from Excise Department, Drug Control Organization, DYSS, and Heads of ATFs at SMHS and SKIMS Bemina, among others.
